Copyright Policy

Authors who publish in Aperture Papers retain copyright in their work. They grant the publisher the right of first publication under an open Creative Commons licence.

Last updated: June 2026

1. Authors retain copyright

Authors retain unrestricted copyright and full publishing rights in their articles. There is no transfer of copyright to Aperture Papers.

2. Licence granted to the publisher

By submitting an article that is subsequently accepted, the corresponding author (on behalf of all co-authors) grants Aperture Papers a non-exclusive licence to publish the work for the first time and to make it freely available under the CC BY 4.0 licence.

3. What authors may do

  • Deposit the published version (Version of Record) in any institutional or subject repository immediately, without embargo.
  • Reuse the work in teaching, derivative works, monographs, and grant proposals.
  • Post the work on personal or laboratory websites, preprint servers, and academic social networks.
  • Translate the work into other languages.

The only requirement, in every case, is correct attribution to the original article and its DOI when one is registered.

4. Third-party rights

Authors are responsible for ensuring that any third-party material reproduced in their article (figures, tables, long quotations) is used with appropriate permission and is correctly attributed. Aperture Papers may request evidence of permission prior to publication.

5. Allegations of infringement

If you believe that material published by Aperture Papers infringes your copyright, please contact editorialoffice@aperturepapers.com with: a description of the work claimed to be infringed, the URL of the allegedly infringing material, and your contact details. We respond to credible notices promptly under the procedures described in our Corrections and Retractions Policy.
